1. Who we are

GiveMeALawyer ("we," "us," or "our") operates the online attorney directory at https://givemealawyer.com(the "Platform"). GiveMeALawyer is an advertising directory — not a law firm and not a lawyer referral service.

2. Information we collect

We collect information in the following ways:

2.1 Information you provide directly

  • Contact forms: When you submit a contact form on an attorney profile, we collect your name, email address, and the message you send. This is forwarded to the attorney; we do not retain the content of those messages beyond what is necessary for delivery.
  • Attorney accounts: If you register as an attorney, we collect your name, email, bar number, practice areas, firm name, office location, and billing details (processed by Stripe).

2.2 Information collected automatically

  • Usage data: We log IP addresses, pages visited, browser type, and referring URLs through our server infrastructure (Hetzner, Cloudflare).
  • Analytics: We use Google Analytics (GA4) where you have consented through our cookie banner. GA4 data is anonymized and does not identify you personally.
  • Cookies: We use strictly necessary cookies for security and session management, and analytical cookies only with your consent. See our cookie policy for details.

3. How we use your information

  • To operate and improve the directory platform.
  • To forward contact form submissions to the relevant attorney.
  • To create and manage attorney accounts and subscriptions.
  • To process payments via Stripe.
  • To send transactional emails (account confirmations, billing receipts).
  • To detect and prevent fraud, spam, and security incidents.
  • To comply with applicable laws and respond to lawful requests.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties for their own marketing purposes.

4. Who we share data with

We share data only as necessary to operate the Platform:

  • Hetzner Online GmbH: Hosting provider (Germany). Data is stored on servers located in the EU.
  • Cloudflare, Inc.: CDN and security services.
  • Stripe, Inc.: Payment processing. Stripe handles your card data; we do not store card numbers.
  • Google Analytics: Only where you have provided consent through our cookie banner.
  • Resend: Transactional email delivery.
  • Legal authorities: When required by applicable law or to protect our legal rights.

Attorney profile data (name, bar number, practice areas, contact details) is intentionally public as part of the directory service.

5. Your privacy rights

Depending on your state of residence, you may have rights including the right to access, correct, delete, or opt out of the processing of your personal information. These rights apply under frameworks including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) and equivalent US state laws.

6. Data retention

We retain personal information for as long as necessary to provide the Platform and comply with legal obligations. Attorney account data is deleted within 30 days of account closure. Billing records are retained for 7 years for tax and audit purposes. Server logs are retained for up to 24 months.

7. Children's privacy

The Platform is intended for users aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have done so, contact us at privacy@givemealawyer.com and we will delete it.

8. International transfers

Our primary servers are located in Germany (Hetzner). By using the Platform from outside the EU, you acknowledge that your data will be processed in Germany and, where our service providers operate, in the United States.

9. Security

We use SSL/TLS encryption for data in transit, restrict access to personal data on a need-to-know basis, and review the security practices of our key service providers. No method of internet transmission is 100% secure.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced on the Platform at least 30 days before taking effect. Continued use of the Platform after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
